Thought for the Day - June 4th

Remembering others  1 Corinthians 11: 1-2

“Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ. I praise you for remembering me in everything and for holding to the traditions just as I passed them on to you.”

As I reflect on the course of my life and on my spiritual journey to becoming an LLM (Licensed Lay Minister), I have become increasingly grateful for those who have influenced me for good.  My parents insisted that one’s reason is a most important gift and must be used well.  I am grateful to the minister, a very good friend, who sadly died a few years ago, who brought me to Christ.  I am grateful to the many peoplein my life, both friends and family, whose questioning and verve have been wonderfully challenging.  And to so many others too numerous to mention.

Whenever Paul wrote to his churches, he always found things to be thankful for in them.

I wonder, who have been the most important examples for you in your life?  Who have been your spiritual mentors?  Are they all in the past or are some more recent?  Have you been able to tell them and thank them for their influence on your life?  And if they are sadly no longer alive, could you thank God for them, as you remember them today?

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I thank you for so many people who have helped me in life.  Help me in my turn to be a good example to my family and neighbours so that something of Christ may be visible to them, in me, to your greater glory. Amen.
