GOD CARES- God’s faithfulness will be like a shield and buckler to the believer- Psalm 91:4(NRSV)
At this time of the corona virus when we are surrounded by death, sickness, self-isolation and in some cases even violence, one may ask does- God really care? Psalm 91- shows us that, we have a God who cares, who is a faithful companion and if we think he does not care or understand, then we must take assurance form the fact that, He created us and therefore understands and loves us even though this is something our finite minds might find difficult to understand.
I would like to share with you today, some verses from Psalm 91 to show us how much God cares for us. If we take Psalm 91.7, we see these words: “A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it (that is the fowlers snare and deadly pestilence) will not come near you”, which tells us there may come thousands of armies of problems on each side of us but the Lord who cares for us and he even knows the lengths of each hair on our head (as He says in Luke 12: 7), will not let harm come our way. So, we should not be afraid This All-knowing God even knows the things we ourselves do not know about or think about because, he is omnipotent (all powerful), omnipresent (everywhere), omniscient (all knowing) and omnibenevolent (all giving).
Verses 9-10 of the same Psalm (91): assures us "The Lord is our refuge, and therefore we should make the Most High our dwelling, so that no harm will overtake us neither should any disaster come near our tent. So since God is all caring, and the very centre of our lives.
Lastly, Psalm 91: 11-12 to further assure us we are not on our own and that we have a God who cares for our every need says to: “For he will command his angels concerning you, to guard you in all your ways;12 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone”. This particular statement here was quoted by Jesus in his self- isolation in the desert while preparing himself before the start of his earthly when he was tempted by Satan.
So as we go through this time of corona virus across our world, let us be assured that we have a God who knows us, cares for us, walks with us, secures us, encompasses us, empowers us and loves us, even if we do not understand these natures of God but by believing in Him by faith through our Lord Jesus Christ, I am sure all our fears and tears at this time will be turned to joy in His name. Amen.
Prayer: Dear Lord most omnipotent father, we ask for your blessings for ourselves, our families, our neighbours and for our world at this time. We pray that you care for us at this uncertain time and always. May you give welcome those members of the human family whom you have called to yourself at this time of corona virus and your peace, love and eternal life. And for those of us who are still alive, we pray that you become our refuge and fortress in whom we have our rest as to rest in you Lord is wisdom, in Jesus name we pray. Amen.
Collect for today – dedicated to St. John the Evangelist.
Merciful Lord, we beseech thee to cast thy bright beams of light upon thy Church, that being enlightened by the doctrine of St. John may so walk in the light of thy truth, that it may at length attain the light of everlasting life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
