Thought for the Day - Holy Saturday

“ The Lord is my light, and salvation, in God, I trust, in God, I trust. (Taize.)

On Palm Sunday, Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, receiving the shouts of “Hosannas” and the waving of palms. He was greeted like a king. During the following days of Holy Week, we witness all kinds of trials, emotions, pain, tensions, denials: everything leading to the cross on Good Friday---that very dark, scary place. The disciples were in despair and Mary could only watch in pain as her Son suffered and died on the cross.

In this time of closed churches and isolation, we are perhaps more able, this year to understand some of those feelings and fears. We, however, have the advantage of knowing about the Resurrection on that first Easter day. We must celebrate that glorious feast--even if we are alone.

I shall still make my Easter tree-(a German custom,)--Some small branches in oasis and decorated with small hanging painted eggs and chicks--something my family has enjoyed doing over the years. We live in hope that we will indeed worship together soon.

“Bless the Lord, O my soul and all that is within me, bless His holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul and do not forget all His benefits.” (Psalm 103.)
