Thought for the Day

“Be still for the presence of the Lord, the Holy One is here.” “God saw everything that He had made and behold it was very good.” (Genesis 1v 31.)

I wonder how many of us really noticed the beauty of our surroundings in the daily bustle of life and how much we just took for granted? Maybe, now, during this time of slower pace and restricted activity, it is time to appreciate the beauty of God’s creation---the lovely magnolia tree in London Road(Stanway)--a joy each year, a magnolia tree in our own garden, plants, flowers, birds and a butterfly. Do we smile and acknowledge the person on the opposite side of the road during a daily walk? If they don’t smile and they are walking a dog, say something nice about the dog!--that will bring a smile and some conversation.

If we are not going out, there is much to appreciate of God’s creation in our own gardens or from our windows(some of you may know the poem”My Kitchen window----Every morning the sun shines bright for me, a breeze blows through the trees----) We can not go out at present,to meet friends, but why not arrange with a friend or a member of the family to sit and drink a cup of coffee at the same time each day---that will give a feeling of togetherness and companionship.

I am left wondering why the virus has come to our country at this particular time?

Is it time to choose what really matters?? Is it time for us to journey more thoughtfully through Lent to Easter??

The Pope’s address in Rome last week was reassuring: “ You will not leave us at the mercy of the storm. “ “By Thy Holy Cross, Thou hast redeemed the world.” Amen.
